Literature Review Essay/Critical Reading Response Essay
The purpose of this essay is to analyze and synthesize scholars' various perspectives about an unique topic relating to the detective story genre and to examine how the selected convention developed and became popular during the late Victorian era. In my Literature Review essay, I focused on the convention of the formulaic sequence of the plot. I discussed how different scholars form their own formulas that shape the detective genre. I used the novel The Sign of Four and few short stories by Conan Doyle to exemplify the scholars' points of view. The links below are websites that I used to learn more about the formulaic sequence and the detective genre.

Revision Strategy
After performing peer review and receiving comments from Professor Haas, I realized I had several shortcomings in this essay. I often repeated my sentences in different words. Also, I should focus on my controlling idea throughout my essay, which is to put the scholars into conversations regarding the formulaic genre. For my final revision of this essay, I decided to revise and edit the first body paragraph because it lacked details and accuracy. It was the weakest paragraph in conveying my thesis. I rearranged the conversation between scholars, so the paragraph flows smoothly and ties in with the controlling idea. In addition to the first body paragraph, I revised the thesis to make it more concise. Below is my prioritized revision strategies for the entire essay. The first and final drafts are color-coded accordingly to indicate revisions.
