What is Writing 39B?
Writing 39B with Professor Dr. Haas is a class focused on critical reading and rhetorical analysis. Our class theme is the detective genre, specifically the Conan Doyle's stories of Sherlock Holmes. The class is separated into different sections, similar to how a genre transitions to a new stage in a new era. First, we learned about the historical context, situated in the Victorian Era. We read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work and several scholarly texts. We, then, examined modern day adaptations to learn how conventions of the detective genre have transitioned over time. At the final stage, through different ways, we displayed what we have learned in a seminar.
